Hakka Connect: Strengthening Community Bonds Through Culture – A Wonderful Success
On Sunday, 19 April 2026, the Hakka Association of Western Australia (HakkaWA) proudly hosted the inaugural Hakka Connect: Hakka Food & Heritage event, bringing together community members, families, friends, and guests from diverse cultural backgrounds for a day of learning, cultural appreciation, and meaningful connection.
The event attracted a strong attendance and marked the beginning of the Hakka Connect series, an initiative designed to strengthen community bonds through the sharing of Hakka culture, traditions, knowledge, and experiences.

Highlights of the day included:
• Inspiring presentations from distinguished guests and community leaders
• Informative talks on Hakka cuisine, plant-based living, and Tai Chi
• An engaging panel discussion and audience Q&A session
• A special showcase of the traditional Hakka dish, Yam Abacus (算盘子)
• Networking and fellowship over a shared lunch

The event provided an excellent opportunity for participants to learn more about Hakka heritage, exchange ideas, and foster new friendships across cultures and generations.
HakkaWA extends its sincere appreciation to all speakers, moderators, panellists, volunteers, members, and supporters whose dedication and enthusiasm contributed to the success of the event. Their collective efforts created a welcoming and enriching experience for all attendees.

A special thank you is extended to Rossmoyne Chinese Restaurant 客人来 for their generous support of the event and for helping present the traditional Hakka dish, Yam Abacus (算盘子). This authentic Hakka delicacy was enjoyed by many guests and served as a meaningful reminder of the rich culinary heritage of the Hakka people. Their contribution played an important role in making the event a memorable success.

The overwhelming positive response from attendees reinforces the importance of creating opportunities for cultural exchange, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
This event marks the beginning of the Hakka Connect series, and HakkaWA is excited to continue building these connections through future programs and events. We look forward to welcoming our community to the next Hakka Connect event scheduled for July 2026.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this wonderful initiative. Together, we continue to celebrate, preserve, and share the rich heritage of the Hakka community while strengthening multicultural connections across Western Australia.
